New Parks Coming Soon
Goodyear plans to build two new parks for the community. A youth sports nonprofit is making plans to build a sport complex within the next five years. The complex will have eight softball and baseball fields, eight multi-use fields for football, lacrosse or soccer. The location plans to be 9 miles south of Estrella Mountain. The Phoenix Trotting park may be demolished once escrow goes through for the new owners. The land is planned to be repurposed to bring more commerce to the area. Multiple offers were received for the land and the final selling price has yet to be revealed. The trotting park was used for two years until it was abandoned over three decades ago. The Phoenix International Raceway is heading to a $178 million makeover from its parent company, International Speedway Corporation. The plans include new grandstands, added structures of competitors and sponsors, and more RV parking. The makeover is to enhance the experience for fans and competitors. The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and law-enforcement agencies began their annual campaign to promote sober drivers and DUI enforcement over the holidays. The campaign means there will be more patrol on the road seeking intoxicated or impaired drivers for the season.
