Winter officially begins, the apex of the Holiday season arrives, and we prepare to usher in a new year with new possibilities and promises! Late December in Tucson is a wonderful time. Here’s some of what you can look forward to:

MOCA Winter Solstice Celebration
A closing party for “Blessed Be: Mysticism, Spirituality, and the Occult in Contemporary Art” at MOCA Tucson. This community event will feature indoor and outdoor performances and art installations, video screenings and projections, hands-on artmaking activities, tarot readings, music, and a bonfire on the plaza. A cash bar will be available and food trucks will be on site. Exhibiting artist Adam Cooper-Terán will perform a ritual ceremony to close out the exhibition, and San Diego-based artist Vabianna Santos will create work that is terrifying, meditative, and that crassly adapts metaphysical themes.

Arizona Bowl
Tucson’s official football festival, the fourth annual NOVA® Home Loans Arizona Bowl, will kick off at approximately 11:15 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at Arizona Stadium on the University of Arizona campus. This annual post-season college football game will match teams from the Mountain West and Sun Belt conferences again this year and will be televised by CBS Sports Network. The participating teams are to be announced.

New Year’s Eve Dinner and Variety Show
If you’re looking for a truly unique and entertaining way to usher in the New Year, then consider the Dinner Theater Variety Show & Party hosted at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites.  A full night of non-stop interactive New Year’s Eve fun, starting with a candle-lit table served 3-course dinner prepared by Sheraton’s Executive Chef and a hilarious classic murder mystery comedy stage show from the folks who’ve brought you the longest running murder mystery dinner theater shows in Arizona. The dinner and show are followed by a number of magical variety acts ranging from song & dance numbers to magic performed by the 2016-2017 Stage Magician of the Year and ending with a chance to dance in the new year to live music and DJ songs. Of course there’s also the traditional count down to the new year with an included champagne toast, balloon drop, party hats noisemakers and all the festive accouterments.

Rick Braun’s New Years’s Eve Getaway
Ring in the new year at the spectacular JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort and Spa with two days, seven hours of live music, dinner, dancing, champagne toast, golf tournament, silent auction and much more.  On New Year’s Eve, step into our Rat Pack themed event that starts with a reception, entertainment, and appetizers. Next you will enter the dining ballroom for the music of the multi-talented saxophone trio, The Sax Pack, starring Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole, and Jackiem Joyner, savor a delicious gourmet meal, warm up your dancing shoes, and enjoy the company of your table mates’ both old and new friends!
Then we really get the party going as we are joined by the headliners. Rick Braun, our host and trumpeter extraordinaire, brings world class musicians with him each year, and this year is no exception, as he is joined by saxophonist Boney James, and the vocal pipes of Selina Albright, who will all bring the house down to ring in the New Year!
As if that isn’t enough, be there on December 30th to join Rick in a golf tournament for fun and fundraising.  And then that evening join us for Start the Party Early, featuring the one and only guitarist and composer, Peter White, in a casual concert to get us in party spirits!
