Quilts in the Gardens
In partnership with Quilts for a Cause, Tucson Botanical Gardens is pleased to exhibit beautiful, handmade nature-themed quilts in Porter Hall and Friends House Gallery. Quilts will also be for sale in the Gardens’ Gift Shop. Quilts for a Cause auctions and sells handmade quilts and quilt patterns donated by quilters to support breast and gynecological cancer research. The Quilts for a Cause mission is to use the art and business of quilting to pursue advances in breast and/or gynecologic cancers by raising funds for research, by continuing the education of medical professionals, and by supporting clinical organizations that raise awareness, offer detection and provide treatment for all women.
Moon Landing Week at Flandrau Planetarium
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission when humans first set foot on the moon, Flandrau will host Moon Landing Week starting on Saturday July 13 with Hello Moon Night, and ending a week later on Saturday, July 20 with One Giant Leap Day! We’ll have special planetarium shows, special presentations, activities and exhibits, all about the moon landing and the UA’s important role in the Space Race. During all of Moon Landing Week (and the whole month of July!) we’ll have frequent screenings of a new fulldome planetarium show CAPCOM GO! The Apollo Story, a captivating, visually ingenious account of the Apollo missions.
La Cocina: Ms. Lana Rebel & Kevin Michael Mayfield
On most Wednesday evenings, La Cocina at Old Town Artisans hosts live music by Lana and Kevin, whose original songs quietly honor the simple beauty of early American folk, blues, and country. Guitars, sweet harmonies, and the occasional harmonica, fiddle, or singing saw blend together to result in a perfect tranquil soundtrack for a long road trip, or a late-night porch gathering on a quiet summer night.
Loft Kids Fest
Let the fun begin! Every summer, the Loft Cinema unleashes cinematic excitement at the Loft Kids Fest! There will be free films (with free popcorn) screened every morning at the Loft Cinema — a terrific Tucson summer tradition. Each screening also includes an animated short film from around the world.
